Advantech, one of the world's largest and leading mission-critical computing platform providers hereby announces the MIC-3081, 10U-high CompactPCI high availability platform. Proven to outlast and provide more stability than any other Industrial PC or server, the MIC-3081 is guaranteed to satisfy telecom Internet' and Industrial automation applications. The MIC-3081 series CompactPCI is a 10U-high enclosure with eight 6U CompactPCI slots for rack mounting, which is provided as a flexible, configurable development platform among the growing popularity of CompactPCI. It supports 8-slot backplane H.110 CT bus backplane and rear I/O, which is designed to speed the implementation.

The MIC-3081 can allocate eight 6U CompactPCI CPU boards, which consists of a modular design, hot-swappable CPU board in front; allowing efficient installation, maintenance, and upgradability. The 6U-sized 8-slot passive backplane with H.110 CT-bus supports 32/64-bit operation complies with PICMG 2.1 hot-swap specification. The CT bus is H.110 compliant (PICMG 2.5) and rear I/O is supported. The MIC-3081 can facilitate storage system expansion by accommodating up to three devices. The MIC-3081 meets all CompactPCI open architecture standards, not only is it compatible with all Advantech CompactPCI boards, in addition to numerous other CompactPCI boards from other manufacturers. Eight CompactPCI slots are available for the system master and 32/64-bit CompactPCI peripheral boards. This powerful 10U CompactPCI structured enclosure is flexible enough for customers to implement particular CT and networking application with various configurations.

The hot-swappable fan conveniently assists users when managing and maintaining the system. With regards to system power loading and over-heating of multiple CPU boards, the MIC-3081 provides high computing density combined with efficient thermal management. The innovative cooling and hot-swappable fans and blowers, and 560 W ATX redundant (2+1) power supplies provide built-in redundancy. The redundant power supply design not only enhances its reliability but also makes this 10U platform especially suitable for mission-critical applications in hazardous environments.

A 2U space underneath the card slots accommodates two 163 CFM high-speed fans which provides forced cooling air into the system. There are also two high-speed blowers on the top for linear air flow to optimize the chassis cooling system. All the fans in this chassis are individually hot-swappable, allowing users to replace any of the fans without interrupting the operation of the system. The fan's tachometer output enables the alarm module to monitor the speed of the fans. A protective circuit has been designed into the fan backplane to reduce spikes and noise during fan hot-swapping. This design allows users to replace new fans safely without turning the system off.

The built-in chassis management module (MIC-3924) is an OS independent hardware module that ensures system stability and real-time status. It is an intelligent SNMP/HTTP system management module that can be integrated into Advantech's computing platforms, providing a simpler way for users to manage remote servers through Internet or phone line connection using any web browser or SNMP-based software. Users can monitor the system's operation with Internet connectivity via its web-based administration interface for increased system reliability. It is highly critical that users be notified to shorten system down time and recover a system failure. The MIC-3081 equipped with Advantech's niche Chassis Management Module, the MIC-3924 can meet these requirements. The MIC-3924 can detect a wide variety of internal system conditions, including temperature, voltage, fan rotation, power supply, CPU fan, CPU temperature, and system operations such as watchdog timer output. It can generate several different alarm outputs, including SNMP trap, e-mail or pager messages to notify a remote user about any abnormal conditions. Thus, users can take necessary action to prevent a system failure.
